EC removes Mayor Rinakumari Sah from office for leaving UML

RAUTAHAT: Rinakumari Sah, who recently defected from the CPN-UML to join another party, has been removed from her post as Mayor.

Sah had been elected as the Mayor of Moulapur Municipality in Rautahat during the local-level elections held on the 13th May as a candidate from the UML.

The UML reported that she had left their party to join her husband Prabhu Shah’s Aam Janata Party. The UML formally informed the Election Commission (EC) about Sah’s defection.

Citing sub-section (1) of Section 32 of the Political Parties Act, 2073, and Rule 22 of the Political Parties Regulations, 2074, the EC determined that Sah’s departure from the party she was originally elected from had resulted in the mayoral position becoming vacant.
