Constitution amendment process grinds to a halt due to UML: DPM Khadka

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka declared on Tuesday that the long-anticipated second amendment to the Constitution has been abruptly stalled due to the actions of the CPN-UML party.

Addressing the orientation program organized for people’s representatives elected from the Nepali Congress (NC), Deputy Prime Minister Khadka attributed the disruption of the constitutional amendment process to the CPN-UML’s interference.

He revealed that the second proposal for constitutional amendment had faltered under the weight of opposition from the UML, bringing the entire amendment process to a grinding halt.

“In an endeavor led by our party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, we painstakingly crafted the second amendment of the constitution and subsequently presented it to the House of Representatives,” stated Khadka. “Regrettably, the process for the second amendment, which held substantial promise, remains mired in uncertainty to this day.”

Furthermore, Defense Minister Khadka emphasized that the current Constitution poses a formidable challenge to its implementation, particularly for political entities that have unwavering faith in the Federal Democratic Republic.

He underscored the commitment to fulfill the trust placed by the entire Nepali population and the global democratic community through the Constituent Assembly’s constitution-making process and also promised to uplift the essence of democracy further strengthening it.
