Bhatbhateni Supermarket fined Rs 100,000 for keeping expired ghee and eggs for sale

LALITPUR: The Joint Market Monitoring Team, Lalitpur fined Rs 100,000 to Pulchok-based Bhatbhateni Supermarket for distributing expired goods.

On Sunday, a team including Assistant Chief District Officer (CDO)of Lalitpur District Amardeep Sunuwar monitored Bhatbhateni Supermarket in Krishnagalli, Patan, Big Mart in Manbhawan, and Saleways Department Store in Pulchowk.

During the monitoring, Bhatbhateni was found to be selling expired ghee and eggs and was fined one lakh rupees, said Assistant CDO Sunuwar.

According to him, a fine of Rs 10,000 was imposed after the green vegetables sold by Big Mart were found to be underweight. Similarly, he said, he was fined Rs 10,000 after being found selling expired beer in the Saleways Department.

The joint market monitoring team of Lalitpur started monitoring the market on Sunday.

“We have started monitoring the market by providing education, even though we warned against the sale and distribution of food products that harm the people’s health, we fined for non-compliance,” said Assistant CDO Sunuwar.

He said that there will be intensive monitoring in the district.

Sanjay Thapa, Head of Cottage and Small Industries Office, Lalitpur, said that the non-edible items were disposed of with due consideration to the health of the consumers.

The monitoring team also disposed of the inedible items.
