JANAKPURDHAM: Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has expressed concerns over the CPN-UML’s obstruction of parliamentary proceedings, leading to the overshadowing of important bills.
Addressing a press conference in Janakpurdham on Thursday, Minister Mahat highlighted that the parliament’s effectiveness is being compromised due to unnecessary disruptions caused by the CPN-UML.
He pointed out that while they did not hinder parliamentary activities during their time out of power, the CPN-UML has been causing unwarranted obstacles since their departure from the government.
Minister Mahat urged the UML, the main opposition party, to reconsider their approach and refrain from unnecessary parliamentary obstruction.
He emphasized that even as the opposition, they hold a responsibility to safeguard the accomplishments made in areas such as federalism, federal law, parliamentary proceedings, and executive functioning.
Speaking on the economy, Finance Minister Mahat noted a marked improvement in its resilience.
He pointed out that the economy is gaining momentum, with the National Bank also reducing interest rates.
Transparency, good governance, and economic progress remain the government’s foremost priorities, he added.
Regarding the previous liquidity challenges in the financial sector due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Mahat expressed optimism about the gradual recovery.
While acknowledging the country’s substantial economic needs, he stressed the importance of aligning them with the nation’s current capacity for economic development.
Minister Mahat reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing good governance across the nation, underscoring that the government is effectively conveying a positive message to the populace.
He said that the government has set a target of achieving 6 percent economic growth rate and is focusing on maintaining economic governance.
According to him, since the interest rate is gradually decreasing, it will help those who are doing business by taking loans.
