KATHMANDU: The mortal remains of 25 people killed in the Yeti Airlines plane crash in Pokhara on Sunday have been brought to Kathmandu.
The bodies were brought on a Nepali Army’s MI-17 helicopter, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) said. Twenty-three remaining bodies are being brought here on another chopper, it is said.
Twenty-two out of the 70 bodies retrieved from the crash site have been identified and arrangements have been made for handing them to their families in Pokhara.
CAAN spokesperson Jagannath Niraula said the helicopter bringing the bodies has already landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Although the helicopter was scheduled to land at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, it was landed at the airport as it was not feasible to land at the Hospital.
The mortal remains would be transported to TUTH from the airport for post-mortem examination. They would be handed to the families of the victims after the autopsy, Niraula said.
A search for the people missing in the crash has been started from the early morning today also. A team of Nepali Army, Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and divers is carrying out the search for the missing.
