KATHMANDU: The Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) aligned with the Nepali Congress today held a rally demanding an increment in wages for workers both in formal and informal sectors.
The rally that originated from Maitighar concluded upon reaching New Baneshwor.
“The protest has been organized to exert pressure on the authorities concerned to increase wages of workers who are currently struggling to sustain their families’ livelihoods due to inflation,” said NTUC General Secretary Ajaya Kumar Rai.
“Minimum wages of workers should be increased from existing Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per month,” he said.
The NTUC has submitted a memorandum to the Labor Minister through Chief District Officer of all 77 districts, and to the provincial government of all seven provinces, demanding an increase in wages to workers, he said.
In addition to this, the NTUC demands the government form the Labor Commission, ensure the representation of workers in policy-making, and include workers in contribution-based social security schemes.
