NC should not bear the burden of the arrested; suspend the accused immediately: General Secy Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has called for the immediate suspension of individuals arrested in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee case.

Expressing his views on the party’s response to the accused involved in the Fake Bhutanese Refugee scam, Thapa emphasized that the party should take appropriate action against them until the court resolves the case.

Thapa’s statement came in response to the reluctance of NC Spokesperson and Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat to suspend Balkrishna Khand, a Central Member of the party, from his responsibilities.

Both Khand and Angtawa Sherpa have been taken into police custody as part of the investigation into the refugee scam.

Thapa argued that the case of Nepalese citizens posing as fake Bhutanese refugees goes beyond mere fraud, involving organized crime and human trafficking. Consequently, he stressed that the seriousness of the matter should be acknowledged and treated accordingly.
