Laws formulation process to be accelerated

KATHMANDU: Law and Human Rights Committee under the Federal Parliament is to forward bills related to anti-money laundering and transitional justice for clause-wise discussion as soon as possible.

During the first meeting held today under the chairmanship of a senior member of the committee and Nepali Congress President, Sher Bahadur Deuba, at the Singha Durbar-based office of the Committee, members suggested forwarding the two bills as soon as possible.

On the occasion, Committee President Deuba shared that bills related to the Commission for Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation Commission (Third Amendment) Bill, 2079, and some act amendment bills related to Money Laundering Prevention and Promotion of Business Environment are in the committee and they would be taken to the conclusion by holding a clause-wise discussion.

Similarly, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Dhanraj Gurung, said the two bills received at the Committee should be passed by the committee as soon as possible, urging to take it with importance as transitional justice is a matter of the country’s prestige.

Likewise, Vice-Chairperson of the CPN (UML) and Committee member Subas Chandra Nembang, said all parties are united to forward the two bills immediately and suggested the act should be amended in line with international recognition, the verdict of the Supreme Court and sentiments of victims on the issue of transitional justice.

Lawmakers—Ranju Thakur, and Sobita Gautam, among others, suggested taking the bill ahead and making the work procedure of the committee’s meeting.

Committee President Deuba said the work procedure of the committee’s meeting would be determined and the committee’s bills would be forwarded in the next meeting.
