Five arrests made in connection with 14 kg gold smuggling so far



KATHMANDU: In relation to the confiscation of 14 kg of gold from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on the night of December 7t, five individuals have been apprehended so far.

The confiscated gold, originally discovered in possession of 45-year-old Chandra Ghale from Gorkha, who arrived on Fly Dubai Flight No. ‘FZ 573’ that day.

Dr. Tokraj Pandey, Head of Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office, stated that the tally of arrests has risen to five, with the recent arrest of Sushila Pandey, the airport’s cleaning supervisor, during ongoing investigations.

“Supervisor Pandey was taken into custody after evidence linked her to concealing gold in a garbage can and subsequently removing it. We will disclose all details upon the completion of the investigation,” stated Dr. Pandey.

A committee, spearheaded by Mani Ram Poudel, Deputy Secretary of the Airport Customs Office, is investigation the case.

Min Bahadur Ghale of Gorkha was arrested based on the statement provided by Chandra Ghale, the initial gold detainee.

Dr. Pandey confirmed that, to date, five individuals, including two airport cleaning assistants, have been apprehended in connection with the same case.
