KATHMANDU: In the inaugural match of the Women’s T20I series featuring four countries, Nepal faced a setback as they succumbed to a 27-run loss against Tanzania.
Chasing Tanzania’s set target of 116 runs, Nepal encountered a batting collapse, getting bowled out for 88 runs in 16.5 overs.
Sita Rana Magar displayed resilience with the bat, scoring the highest for Nepal with 43 runs, but her efforts couldn’t avert the team’s defeat.
Captain Indu Barma contributed 15 runs before being dismissed, and unfortunately, no other batter managed to reach double-digit scores.
The game commenced with Tanzania winning the toss in Hong Kong’s Wang Nai and opting to bat first.
Sangita Rai was the most successful bowler for Nepal, securing 2 wickets.
Puja Mahato, Rubina Chhetri, and Captain Indu Barma also claimed one wicket each.
Tanzania’s innings were anchored by Huda Amori, who top-scored with 25 runs.
Despite Amori’s efforts, she was run out after scoring 25 runs off 26 balls, hitting 2 fours.
Alisa Mahato contributed 21 runs, while opener Saum Emtai and captain Fatuma Kibasu scored 16 and 11 runs, respectively.
Rubina dismissed Kibasu, and Monica Pascal was caught out after scoring 10 runs. However, no other Tanzanian batter managed to reach double figures.
Looking ahead, Nepal is set to face the home team in their second match on Thursday, followed by a clash against Japan on Saturday.
The Women’s T20I series in Hong Kong involves the host team, along with Nepal, Japan, and Tanzania.
The top two teams from the group stage will vie for the title on Sunday, while the bottom two teams will compete for the third-place spot on the same day.
