BIRATNAGAR: The General Secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC), Gagan Kumar Thapa, has made a significant announcement regarding a potential change in the leadership of the party’s parliamentary party (PP).

Thapa stated that once the required number of lawmakers is reached, he intends to move forward with the process of selecting a new leader.

Addressing the media in Biratnagar on Saturday, Thapa emphasized that the NC Parliamentary Party has a provision in its statutes that allows for the replacement of the party leader. He reiterated that they will exercise this provision when the necessary support is achieved within the party.

“Our party statutes provide the option to change the leader of the parliamentary party whenever it is deemed necessary,” explained General Secretary Thapa. “Once we attain the required number of lawmakers, we will initiate the process of changing the parliamentary party leader.”

Thapa also drew attention to a past instance when the incumbent President of the party, Sher Bahadur Deuba, replaced Girija Prasad Koirala as the PP leader with the support of the majority of lawmakers.

Furthermore, Thapa assured that the NC Statute Convention, a gathering dedicated to reviewing and updating the party’s statutes, will help clarify any ambiguities and address the existing alliance before the next elections.

The convention aims to streamline the party’s internal structure and decision-making processes, ensuring a more transparent and cohesive approach moving forward, he added.
