WFD urges caution as floods, landslides pose risks

KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division has issued a warning, cautioning people about the potential risks of floods and landslides in certain areas of the country, as heavy rainfall is expected.

The Division has predicted significant precipitation in specific regions.

According to the Division’s report, Palpa, Nawalpur, Nawalparasi, Tanahun, Kaski, and Mahottari have experienced substantial rainfall in the past 12 hours.

Mahottari received 60 mm of rain within the last two hours and 120 mm within three hours. Kaski recorded 166.2 mm, Tanahun 149 mm, Nawalparasi 143 mm, Nawalpur 141.4 mm, and Palpa 136.4 mm of rainfall in the last twenty-four hours.

However, the Division has clarified that continuous rainfall is unlikely.

The increased precipitation is attributed to the movement of the monsoon’s low-pressure system.

Consequently, there is a heightened risk of flash floods in rivers surrounding the district, such as Binayi, Arun, and Giruwari rivers.

It is crucial for people to exercise caution in these areas, it said.
