Opposition parties meet at Singha Durbar to discuss ordinances, parliament issues

KATHMANDU: A significant meeting of opposition parties is underway at Singha Durbar, convened by the Maoist Center.

The meeting, set to begin at 9:30 am, is being held at the parliamentary party office of the Maoist Center.

According to Hitraj Pandey, the party’s chief whip, the gathering aims to address key concerns surrounding the government’s actions.

“All opposition parties have been invited, and it is expected that most will participate. Discussions will focus on the government’s working style, its failure to convene parliament, and the controversial ordinances recently issued,” Pandey said.

The meeting marks the first collective assembly of opposition forces since the issuance of four contentious ordinances by the government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The ordinances have sparked widespread discontent among opposition parties, who argue that they bypass proper parliamentary procedure.

Sources indicate that individual opposition parties have held internal discussions over the ordinances, with many expressing anger at the government’s decision to issue them while neglecting to convene parliament.

The Maoist Center, spearheading today’s meeting, is aiming to consolidate opposition voices against what it sees as a unilateral approach by the Oli administration.

Critics within the opposition allege that the ordinances undermine democratic processes and were introduced to serve the government’s own agenda.
