KATHMANDU: Former Deputy Prime Minister and CPN-UML leader, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, who was arrested in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, is being produced in court today.

A special team of police arrested him from Budanilkanth in Kathmandu on Sunday evening.

Rayamajhi has been kept at Kathmandu District Police Complex, Teku.

Police said that Rayamajhi will be taken for an extension of custody.

SSP Dan Bahadur Karki informed that he was arrested from Pasikot of Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu on Sunday.

According to the police, Rayamajhi had come to Kathmandu on Saturday.

A top police source said he was arrested from Narayan Paudel’s house in Budhanilkantha.

Sources claimed that Poudel is Rayamajhi’s friend.

Likewise, former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has already been arrested in this case.

The Kathmandu District Court had issued an arrest warrant against him in a fraud case on May 3, 2023.

He was in Arghakhanchi that day. He, however, absconded after the arrest warrant was issued.

Police have already arrested Rayamajhi’s son Sandeep on the same day.

Earlier, Indrajit Rai, the advisor to former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, was arrested on the charge of his involvement in the scam.

Police have already made high-profile arrests over their alleged connections to the scam.
