Maoist Center likely to support NC’s presidential candidate

KATHMANDU: The ruling Maoist Center is likely to support Nepali Congress (NC) candidate for the post of the President.

The party is making a formal decision soon in this regard, a party source said.

The Maoist Center believes that supporting a candidate from within the ruling coalition can cause trouble to the party and even lead to political instability.

According to the source, the Maoist Center is holding a meeting of the office bearers and Standing Committee to make a formal decision.

The Maoist Center’s position has dismissed speculations that the parties will nominate a non-political candidate as the country’s President.

The parties are required to register the name of the candidate for the presidential election on February 25.

A Maoist Center leader said that the party has come to a conclusion that working with CPN-UML and its Chairman KP Sharma Oli was not comfortable for the Maoist Center.
