Presidential candidate through political consensus: Unified Socialist Chairperson Nepal

POKHARA: Chairperson of the Unified Socialist Madhav Kumar Nepal has reiterated that the presidential candidate should be picked through a political consensus.

Speaking at a program in Pokhara on Wednesday, the former Prime Minister said, “A search is underway for a President who can safeguard the democratic republic constitution.”

The Unified Socialist is not in favor of sharing the coveted portfolio with the CPN-UML, and there is a need to pick a new President who is acceptable to all, he viewed.

His party would not field a presidential candidate until there is a consensus, he said, adding that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ was making efforts towards forging a national consensus on a new President who is acceptable to all.

“Let’s see whether or not his efforts will pay off. There seems a political fluidity in the country. Let’s see where the political situation goes,” he said.
