UML’s Nanda Gurung elected Karnali Province Speaker



SURKHET: CPN-UML lawmaker Nanda Gurung has been elected Speaker of the Karnali Province.

With this, Gurung, who was from the ruling coalition partners, has become the first female Speaker in the Province.

The third meeting the first session of the Province Assembly (PA) elected her with majority votes.

Senior most members in the PA, Hikmat Bahadur Bista, who chaired the meeting, did so through voting as per Rule 7 (6) of the Karnali Province Assembly Regulation, 2079.

Out of the total 40 PA members, 38 were present in the voting, and of them, 24 cast their vote for Gurung. Her nearest rival Khadga Bahadur Pokhrel from the Nepali Congress garnered 14 votes.

She was elected as the member in the PA from Surkhet under the proportional representation.
