UML Chairman Oli slapped in Dhankuta

DHANKUTA: In an incident that unfolded on Thursday around noon, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli was targeted in an unexpected attack in Dhankuta.

The assailant, identified as Mahesh Rai, ostensibly part of the welcoming party with a flower garland, brazenly slapped Chairman Oli.

Police promptly intervened and arrested Rai, as captured in a video that has since been made public.

Notably, security personnel were seen restraining one of Rai’s hands during the incident.

Dhankuta Chief District Officer Punya Bikram Paudel stated that Rai exhibited signs of intoxication, leading to his detention.

Paudel remarked, “His behavior was deemed suspicious, and he was taken into custody.”

Chairman Oli was in Dhankuta as part of his Mid-hill East-West Campaign.

According to Koshi State Police Chief DIG Rajeshnath Bastola, Rai, who was found to be in an inebriated state, assaulted Oli without any apparent political motivation.

“He has been found to be intoxicated; he is not a political activist,” mentioned Bastola, confirming Rai’s detainment.
