Two jailed for manhandling doctors



KASKI: Two people who assaulted doctors and vandalized the Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara two weeks ago have been sent to prison.

Likewise, seven people involved in the incident have been released on bail. They were arrested and prosecuted under the Health Institutions Security Act, 2066 BS.

The sentence was announced by the Kaski District Court on Friday. Those sent to jail are Binaya Gurung of Pokhara-5 and Sushil Karki of Pokhara-17.

Meanwhile, 10 people involved in the incident and whose identity has been revealed and others whose identity has not been revealed are still absconding.

The search to find them is underway, said District Police Office Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police Shrawan Kumar BK.

In the incident that took place on September 25, the relatives of 57-year-old Sukmaya Dura of Lamjung who died during treatment at the Manipal Teaching hospital, manhandled the doctors of the Hospital based in Phoolbari of Pokhara Metropolitan City-11.
