Government plans to establish Nepali Embassies in eight new countries

KATHMANDU: The Nepal government, in a significant move, has unveiled plans to establish Nepali embassies in eight additional countries across the globe.

In a high-level meeting presided over by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal earlier this week, the decision was reached to open embassies in Portugal, Romania, Malta, Cyprus, Croatia, Maldives, Poland, and Turkey.

This decision, as disclosed by the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, comes in response to the growing number of Nepali expatriates in these nations, particularly in Europe, where foreign employment opportunities have flourished.

With a burgeoning Nepali community in these countries, the government aims to facilitate their needs by providing essential consular services.

The newly established embassies will each comprise a deputy secretary from the Foreign Service, an officer-level labor assistant from the Ministry of Labor, and one local employee, all dedicated to serving the Nepali diaspora in their respective regions.

Following the high-level meeting’s resolution, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will present the embassy establishment proposal to the Council of Ministers.

The formal establishment of embassies in the selected eight countries will subsequently be contingent upon the cabinet’s decision.
