Ruling coalition rejects UML’s call for high-level committee in gold smuggling case

KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition has rejected the CPN-UML’s proposal to form a high-level committee tasked with investigating the one-quintal gold smuggling case.

The leaders of the ruling coalition emphasized enhancing the efficacy of the ongoing investigation led by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).

According to Rajendra Pandey, Vice Chairman of CPN Unified Socialist Party, the leaders contended that the UML’s initiative to raise this matter was merely a ploy to divert attention from the existing investigation.

The leaders collectively affirmed that a high-level committee was unnecessary.

During the meeting, deliberations also touched upon the involvement of Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara’s father and his son in the gold case.

When questioned about this, Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha provided an inconclusive response, reiterating his commitment to ensure that none of the guilty parties evade justice.

Likewise, the meeting also said that since the victims’ families in the Gaur murder incident, no further actions were necessary to undertake.

The meeting also discussed the Lalita Niwas land grab scam.
