CIB should say about Mahara, not Maoist Center: NC General Secy Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepal Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) should initiate an investigation and clarify the connection of CPN Maoist Center Vice Chairman Krishna Bahadur Mahara in gold smuggling case.

General Secretary Thapa objected to the Maoist Center’s decision to seek clarification spokesperson Mahara’s clarification regarding the involvement in gold smuggling.

Expressing his opinion at the meeting of the party’s parliamentary party held on Monday, Thapa said, “Maoist office-bearers have asked Krishna Bahadur Mahara to clarify.”
CIB should investigate and say what is the matter. Government agencies should investigate the gold smuggling case. We should not mistrust the institutions of the state.

Even though the names of Mahara, who is also the former Speaker of the House, and his son Rahul Mahara have come up in the case of gold smuggling in Vep, the police are being criticized from all sides for not investigating.

Thapa is also of the opinion that NC should take responsibility for both the good and bad work done by the coalition government formed under its initiation

Similarly, another General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has also expressed the opinion that the state agencies should be assisted in investigating the gold smuggling case.
