Mustang floods sweep away 10 houses, police post and bridge

MUSTANG: Floods occurred at Baragung Muktichhetra rural municipality-4, Kagbeni in Mustang last evening sweeping away 10 houses, police posts and a bridge.

The flood-fed Kag rivulet that sneaked into the human settlement at Kagbeni, the popular religious site, at 8.00 pm last night caused damages to the physical infrastructure.

Chairperson of Muktichhetra rural municipality Rinjin Gurung shared that the flood took away 10 houses/hotels, police post, the under-construction motorable bridge on Jomsom-Korala road, a trail bridge, two vehicles and three electricity poles.

“Human loss was narrowly escaped due to timely evacuation of houses after getting information about the imminent flood. The flood took place after the Tiri rivulet above Kagbeni was blocked”, he said, adding, “It has buried the rest house of Kagbeni. Flood has put the human settlement in mess”.

Chief District Officer Anup KC said the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police along with the people’s representatives are being mobilized in the field for rescue operation.

The flood in the Panda stream has caused trouble to the security personnel to reach Kagbeni through Jomsom.

The road leading to the Upper Mustang via Kagbeni has been obstructed. Mustang has also witnessed incessant rain for the past couple of days.

Water level has also increased in other rivulets of Mustang due to incessant rain.
