Production of 90 micro hydropower projects smooth after maintenance

POKHARA: The Gandaki province government has carried out maintenance of 90 micro hydropower projects in the last five years.

According to the Province Ministry of Energy, Hydropower and Drinking Water, the production of a total of 3,295 KW of electricity has become smooth after maintenance.

Engineer Jeewan Shrestha of the Energy Section said 15,440 households have benefitted from the projects.

He shared the province has around 400 micro hydropower projects, including 371 promoted by the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC).

Electricity has been accessible to 3.82 percent population of the province through solar power and micro hydropower.

But, 99.50 percent population of the province has access to electricity through the National Transmission Line and renewable energy, Shrestha informed.

The province government is constructing the 30-KW Bhimtang Micro Hydropower Project in Naso Rural Municipality of Manang on own investment.

The ministry sources said the electricity of 98-KW Putpute rivulet micro hydropower project was also connected to the national transmission line.

The province government has advanced its preparation to declare ‘Ujyalo Gandaki Province’ campaign within the current fiscal year.

The province government, as informed, was working to reach the access of the electricity to remaining 0.50 percent population of the province i.e 2,480 households.
