Country to add 900 MW power in its system next year: Minister Basnet

KATHMANDU: Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet announced that the country plans to add 900 megawatts of power to its system in the next fiscal year.

Minister Basnet emphasized the government’s focus on increasing domestic power consumption and exporting surplus power.

Currently, the country’s power production stands at approximately 2,000 megawatts.

Basnet stated that the country aims to export 10,000 megawatts of power to India in the next decade.

To achieve this goal, projects with a capacity of 20,000 megawatts are set to be developed.

Furthermore, Minister Basnet shared the government’s plan to advance reservoir-based mega projects, including the long-awaited development of Lower Arun.
