IFRC, NDRRMA reach agreement to collaborate to reduce disaster risks



KATHMANDU: An agreement has been reached between the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) to collaborate and cooperate in reducing and managing disaster risks.

Azmat Ulla, Head of Delegation, IFRC, Nepal, and the NDRRMA executive chief Anil Pokharel held a meeting on Thursday and took a decision to this effect.

On the occasion, they stressed the need for increasing the efficacy of local levels in Nepal for the effective management of disasters. Ulla informed about humanitarian service while Pokharel presented a report about the latest activities done by the Authority.

The IFRC has been providing assistance and carrying out various humanitarian assistance in Nepal through the Nepal Red Cross Society. Two months ago, it handed 30 new ambulances and 15 upgraded ones to the Nepal Red Cross Society.

It cost around 1.2 million Swiss Francs to purchase the ambulances, said the IFRC.

Similarly, it provided assistance during COVID-19 and earthquakes. It has continued to provide support to the Nepal Red Cross Society for carrying out vaccination programs in 22 districts of the country, it said.

More than 150,000 volunteering for the Red Cross Society have been engaged in social work across the country, it has been shared.
