No closure on media platform, monitoring content is better option: UML leader Rimal

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Rimal  has expressed opposition to the government decision to shut down the social network TikTok, and recommended that the government focus on content control rather than closing the platform.

Rimal contends that shutting down the media platform infringes upon the right to freedom of expression.

Taking to Facebook, Deputy Secretary General Rimal conveyed his stance, stating, “Government, instead of closing down the choice-based platform, regulate the content, and control the chaos in expression.”

Notably, Gagan Thapa, the General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, had also previously voiced opposition to the government’s decision to cease TikTok operations.
