KATHMANDU: The police have arrested 45 contractors who went to lock the office of the Lalitpur-based Department of Water Resources and Irrigation (DWRI) on Sunday.
The police arrested 45 people, including the General Secretary of the Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN), Roshan Dahal.
The construction professionals, who have been agitating for the fulfillment of the nine-point demand, including timely payment for ongoing and completed projects and an extension of deadlines, reached the office of the irrigation department in Lalitpur today during office hours.
According to FCAN President Ravi Singh, the police forcefully opened the padlock and arrested the contractors.
“We locked the office demanding fulfillment of our 9-point concerns; however, the police opened the padlock and arrested 45 officials, including the FCAN General Secretary,” he said.
The arrested contractors have been detained at the District Police Office in Lalitpur.
