Nepal exports handicrafts worth Rs 12 billion annually



KATHMANDU: Nepal is exporting handicrafts worth Rs 12 billion in a year.

According to the Chairman of the Nepal Handicrafts Federation, Prachanda Shakya, the handicrafts made in Nepal were exported to over 60 countries.

Nepali handicrafts have a significant contribution to the national economy, thus, warranting special attention from the government and others concerned for its protection and promotion, he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Federation is holding the 18th handicrafts competition and 20th trade fair at Hotel Annapurna, Durbar Marg, from December 14 to 18.

There will be three pavilions with 130 stalls.

It is expected that the fair would record more than 100 thousand visitors, according to organizers.

Anyone securing first position in the competition will got cash prize of 50,000, while the second one Rs 30,000 and the third Rs 20,000.

Similarly, 10 senior citizens and noted artistes over 70 years would be honoured on the occasion.
