KATHMANDU: In a dramatic turn of events, police resorted to gunfire to quell a group of bandits in Gokarneshwar Municipality Ward No. 3 Jagdol of Kathmandu.
Three bandits arrived on the scene, riding on three motorcycles, and swiftly attracted the attention of the police, who embarked on a high-speed pursuit.
As the situation escalated, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rabindra Regmi from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office said that the police fired two rounds in an effort to bring the group of robbers under control.
SP Regmi stated, “We received information that robbers were en route to commit a robbery. Accordingly, the police team arrived on the scene. When they spotted our presence, they brandished their firearms, prompting us to discharge two rounds to subdue them.”
The police arrested three members of the robbery group, including 30-year-old Jiten Lama of Sindhupalchowk and 36-year-old Santa Lama of Sarlahi.
A pistol, seven rounds of ammunition, and a used motorcycle were recovered from their possession, although the police did not disclose the intended target of their heist.
A 36-year-old resident of Ward No. 2, Sindhuli Kamalamai Municipality named Amar Ghalan, sustained injuries from the police gunfire.
He was shot in the thigh and under the knee of his right leg and is currently receiving medical treatment at Nepal Medical College in Jorpati.
