KATHMANDU: The government has decided to cremate CPN-UML Vice Chairman and former Chairman of the Constituent Assembly, Subash Nemwang with state honors.
Nemwang, who also served as the Vice Chairman of CPN-UML, passed away on Monday night. He was 71 years old.
In a cabinet meeting held this morning, it was decided to bestow state honors upon Nemwang.
Minister of Tourism Sudan Kiranti said that this decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers held at the Prime Minister’s Office, Sinha Darbar, on Tuesday morning.
The government has also decided to give a public holiday on the day (Thursday) of the funeral itself.
Nemwang was taken to Teaching Hospital Maharajganj last night after he fainted in the toilet of his house in Baluwatar due to a heart attack.
He was pronounced dead at 1:40 p.m. on Monday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, who visited the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj on Tuesday morning, confirmed the government’s intent to conduct Nemwang’s cremation with state honors.
