Nepali Congress holding central working committee meeting today

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) is holding its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting today which was pending for a year.

Party insiders said the CWC meeting is likely to witness heated debates over several issues that the country’s oldest party is confronting.

The party held its central committee meeting on July 11-18, 2022.

The meeting will debate several issues, including reviewing the results of the general election held in November 2022, and the local polls.

The party will also discuss the party’s role in the Parliament and the government, the ruling coalition, among other issues.

According to Clause 21 of the NC Charter, the party leadership should convene a central working committee meeting every two months.

It should be noted that General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma have been criticizing the party leadership for failing to address the party’s concerns.

The party has already finalized the agenda for the meeting to be held at the party’s Central Office in Sanepa.

The decisions made by the working execution committee will also be presented for endorsement at the central committee meeting.

In addition, the central committee is scheduled to discuss the agenda to determine the date and venue for the policy convention, which will be held prior to the Dashain festival.

The Nepali Congress is also preparing to launch a nationwide campaign to strengthen the party.

While the NC’s central committee consists of 168 members, party President Deuba is yet to nominate several central members.

Moreover, the appointment of a treasurer has not been made thus far.
