Prachanda floats idea of Broader Left Unity thru a Socialist Front

KATHMANDU: Amid political uncertainty, Prime Minister (PM) and Chairman of Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has floated the idea of forming a Socialist Front within a couple of days.

According to him, the Communist parties of Maoist schooling have already initiated a discussion to form a Socialist Front, and then form a broader Left unity.

PM Dahal said the parties were serious about finalizing the peace process and issues of transitional justice through Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

“We are making a joint appeal on Sunday through a press conference,” PM Dahal, who is also the Chairman of the Maoist Center, said.

Dahal is of the view that Nepal’s communist movement is at a crossroads of challenges and possibilities.

“We should open up the door for socialism through broader left unity by coping with challenges,” he said.

Prachanda viewed that the Maoist Center should take a lead role in the unity of the communist parties and the formation of the socialist front.

He, however, alleged CPN-UML’s leadership of being against the motion of communist unity.

“A large section in UML is for unification move,” he claimed adding, that a significant section within the UML believes that the Nepal Communist Party should be revived.

“So, we should take a lead role for the unity,” Prachanda said.

Dahal also appealed to all Left leaders to offer debates for the cause of unity by defeating all the divisible forces and trends.
