There should not be mid-term elections in Sudurpaschim province: Madhav Kumar Nepal

DHANGADHI: Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) party Madhav Kumar Nepal has urged all parties to maintain the newly formed government of Sudurpaschim and ensure that the province is drawn to mid-term elections.

Speaking at a press conference held in Dhangadhi on Sunday, chairman Nepal said that Sudurpaschim province should not witness political instability any more.

“We should not go to the mid-term elections, our country’s economy cannot survive, everyone needs to cooperate with this government to stay,” he said referring to the newly formed government under Nepali Congress leadership.

Chairman Nepal said that it is necessary to release Resham Chaudhary as he has already been convicted in the Tikapur murder case and it is not appropriate to keep this case pending.

He also requested the government for Chaudhary’s release.

Rajendrasinh Rawal, who became the Chief Minister from CPN (UML), failed to get a vote of confidence, and the Sudurpaschim Province government collapsed under Article 168, Clause 2 of the Constitution.

Now, according to clause 3 of Article 168 of the Constitution, Kamal Bahadur Shah of Nepali Congress, the largest party in the province assembly, has become the Chief Minister. Madhav Nepal’s Unified Socialist has sent a minister in the cabinet.

The Shah-led government will also have to take a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly within a month.
