KATHMANDU: Dr. Bharatraj Gautam, the Secretary-General of Parliament Secretariat, has tendered his resignation.

Sources within the President’s Office confirmed the submission of his resignation letter.

Despite having eight months left in his tenure, Gautam has chosen not to disclose the reasons behind his decision to step down.

The resignation prompted discussions between Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire and Speaker of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timalsina regarding the vacant position and the appointment of a new Secretary General.

Dr. Gautam assumed the role of Secretary General of the Federal Parliament Secretariat on May 4, 2020.

His appointment was made on the recommendation of then-President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Speaker of the National Assembly Ganesh Timilsina, and then Speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Sapkota.

Before taking on the role of Secretary General, Gautam served as the Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat.
