KATHMANDU: A group of Nepali students recently rescued from the war-torn Gaza border area are pleading for immediate repatriation, expressing their frustration with the perceived inaction of the Nepali government.
These students, who recount their harrowing experiences, describe their struggles and concerns while awaiting rescue.
Louish Rizal, one of the rescued students, conveyed her distress over the lack of government initiatives and the delay in their return to Nepal.
He lamented the government’s apparent indifference, as they learned about rescue efforts primarily through media reports.
Rizal also detailed the challenges they faced while awaiting rescue, highlighting the danger of rocket attacks from above.
“The fear of missiles falling from the sky is ever-present. People here rely on their faith and courage to face these threats, and they believe that we must take charge of our safety,” he shared via a video message.
Despite enduring hunger just days ago, Rizal expressed disappointment over what he perceived as Nepal’s neglect, especially when basic necessities could be met.
When contacting the embassy for updates, Rizal explained they were told that the airport was operational, but financial constraints posed a significant obstacle.
Uncertainty prevailed regarding who would oversee the required funds.
Rizal expressed the group’s readiness to contribute if necessary and emphasized the urgency of resolving this issue.
Another Nepali student recounted their distressing experience, enduring the sound of bombs for five days, expressing their eagerness to return to Nepal and escape the turmoil in Israel.
The student lamented the loss of ten friends and questioned the Nepali government’s delay in arranging their return.
Echoing the sentiment, another student stated a strong desire to leave Israel and return to Nepal, emphasizing the need for prompt action.
Rizal closed with a poignant appeal, questioning whether the authorities wished to see more lives lost.
He offered alternatives, suggesting they could return to Nepal via Egypt or seek assistance from other vessels. Urgency in reaching a decisive decision was urged.
The group of 19 Nepalese students, including Rizal, recounted their rescue and their current location near the Egyptian border.
They have yearned for a swift return to their homeland, expressing their frustrations with the ongoing uncertainty.
