KATHMANDU: As the festive season of Dasain approaches, the government has initiated the advance booking of public transport tickets, starting this Monday.

Meanwhile, the rush for air tickets during the festival season is in full swing.

In response to the surging demand for domestic travel, the number of domestic flights has significantly increased, particularly to destinations that can be reached quickly.

As a result, airline companies have taken advantage of the high passenger occupancy, doubling the airfares on the eve of the festival.

This annual price hike in both public transport and airfares is compounded by the rising cost of petroleum products.

The Transport Management Department, in an effort to regulate fares, introduced fixed rates for public transport on short, medium, and long-distance inter-provincial routes effective from July 1st.

Passengers can also purchase tickets for Dasain at these regulated fares.

Currently, airlines such as Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, Shree Aitways, and Sourya operate regular flights to various destinations.
