KATHMANDU: Pankaj Bikram Nembang, President of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), and Kiran Rai, General Secretary, are facing calls for their dismissal from 49 member associations and clubs affiliated with ANFA.
These members have submitted a petition, citing Article 36 (3) of the ANFA statutes, demanding a special general meeting, with signatures representing 40 percent of ANFA’s membership. The petition explicitly includes the agenda item of dismissing Chairman Nembang and General Secretary Rai during this proposed special general meeting.
According to ANFA’s statutes, now thespecial general meeting must be convened by October 10 as requested by 40 percent of the members. The petition warns that if ANFA fails to call such a meeting, the signatories will take the initiative to organize one.
It’s crucial to note that the ANFA constitution mandates that a two-thirds majority vote in the general assembly is required for any dismissals.
The petitioners allege that ANFA’s President and General Secretary are actively undermining Nepali football, and they express concerns about the future of the sport under their leadership. In their 19-point list of accusations against the President and General Secretary, they highlight issues such as the organization of a virtual special general meeting, passing budgets without due process, unauthorized financial transactions, and making decisions outside the scope of their authority.
Notably, President Nembang has been in the minority since his election in June of the previous year. The majority of party members, including former President Karma Chhiring Sherpa and Ganesh Thapa, have been able to influence various decisions within the working committee despite his presidency.
