CIB arrests one more doctor in alleged fake certificate scandal

KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police has launched Operation Foxtrot Charlie, resulting in the arrest of six individuals.

CIB Spokesperson, SP Navaraj Adhikari, announced the recent arrest of Dr. Shraddha Shilpakar, a practitioner at Ishan Children’s Hospital, marking the tally of arrests at six.

The arrests revolve around accusations of involvement in a counterfeit certificate racket.

Among those apprehended is Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker, Sunil Sharma, who was taken into custody by the CIB on Thursday.

Sharma holds positions as the Director of Nobel Medical College and Kathmandu Medical College. Notably, Sharma, an elected Member of Parliament from Morang, had previously called for the resignations of Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat amid a gold smuggling case just fifteen days ago.

The recent CIB operation culminated in the detention of several individuals, including Dr. Sharma, Dr. Ranjit Kumar Yadav, Dr. Amit Chaudhary, Dr. Rambabu Yadav, and Dr. Erina Shah.

These arrests have led to the establishment of a holding location within the new Lazimpat office of the Bureau.

Kiran Bajracharya, the CIB’s Director, highlighted that this operation is part of an ongoing effort to apprehend individuals involved in the use of fraudulent medical certificates.
