KATHMANDU: Chairman of CPN-UML KP Oli has underscored the imperative of effectively combating corruption at all costs.
During the party’s Central Committee meeting in Lalitpur on Thursday, Chairman Oli, who is also the former Prime Minister, emphasized the importance of discouraging corruption and corrupt individuals.
Oli’s remarks come at a crucial juncture as the party’s Secretary, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, who is allegedly involved in the fake Bhutanese refugees scam, is currently evading authorities.
Additionally, in relation to the same issue, the police have apprehended Bal Krishna Khand, a prominent Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister.
Chairman Oli of CPN-UML stated that the political landscape of the country has reached a “complex stage” as a result of pervasive corruption.
Oli expressed his concerns by stating, “The current state of the country’s politics has become intricate due to corruption.”
He further mentioned that he has already urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda to take impartial action against any individual involved in corruption, without being influenced by political biases.
He stated that attempts were made to implicate someone in a prejudiced manner on fake Bhutanese refugees scam.
The UML Chair shared that he during the meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had urged not to spare those involved in the scam and not to implicate innocent people.
He further said that the party suspended party secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi to help with the investigations into the scam.
Saying people making Nepalis stateless and sending people to foreign land illegally are traitors, he questioned why the people arrested earlier in this scam were released.
Also the former Prime Minister, Oli urged the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority to carry out investigations into all corruption cases.
Chair Oli said he during the Premiership of Girija Prasad Koirala had suggested resolving the problem by sending Bhutanese refugees to third countries after it was not possible to repatriate them to Bhutan.
He added that he during his term as Foreign Minister had urged the then US President George W. Bush to resolve the Bhutanese refugee problem.
