PM Dahal, Deuba and Oli agree to make TJ and TRC bills ‘widely acceptable’

KATHMANDU: Three top leaders – Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli – have discussed making the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and Transitional Justice (TJ) bills “widely acceptable”.

However, the meeting of the top leaders held at the Speaker’s residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday morning decided to discuss the issue further.

The leaders also agreed to decide on the leadership and representation of joint committees and other committees on the basis of consensus.

The leaders will hold another round of talks today afternoon.

Today’s meeting also discussed, among others, endorsing the Bill on TRC through fast-track, and the country’s latest political developments, a Baluwatar source said.

CPN-UML Chief Whip Padam Giri, Maoist Center Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey, and Nepali Congress MP Ishwari Neupane also participated in the meeting, sources said.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Dinamani Pokharel and former Attorney General Ramesh Badal were also invited to discuss the issue.
