Ruling coalition to field Janamat Party’s Mamata Jha as vice-presidential candidate

KATHMANDU: The ten-party ruling alliance has decided to field the Janamat Party leader Mamata Jha as the vice presidential candidate in the election to be held on March 17.

Today, after the meeting of ten parties held at the Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar, Janamat Party President CK Raut said that the coalition will register the candidature of Mamata Jha of his party.

Raut informed that three people from the alliance will field candidacy in the first round.

Earlier Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) leader Ram Sahaya Yadav was considered for the candidacy. However, the Election Commission has asked its officials not to register the name of male candidate for the post of Vice President as the President-Elect has been male.

According to Dr. Raut, considering the risk of getting the male candidate rejected by the Commission, the alliance decided to field Janamat Party’s Jha as its candidate as well.

JSP is likely to forward two candidates as there is the risk of its male candidate being rejected.

Dr. Raut claimed that there will be only one candidate from the coalition as others will withdraw the candidacy after discussion.
