Discontented political advisor to PM Dahal resigns from post

KATHMANDU: Haribol Gajurel, the political advisor to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, has resigned from his position due to differences in opinion regarding the Prime Minister’s working style.

The advisor quit amidst reports linking the Prime Minister to the Ncell share transactions case.

Sources within the CPN-Maoist Center indicated that Gajurel expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Dahal’s approach to work, stepping down from his role as a political advisor, seeking cabinet minister-level privileges.

It’s reported that Gajurel cited lack of influence as an advisor and criticized Prime Minister Dahal for being trapped in familial circles, particularly highlighting the considerable power of the Prime Minister’s personal secretary, Ganga, who is also his daughter. Gajurel also expressed dismay at being sidelined in the political activities of his home district.

There’s speculation among some party leaders about potentially nominating Gajurel as a member of the National Assembly. However, sources from Baluwatar claimed his resignation was due to his preoccupation with party duties.

When approached for comment on the reason behind his resignation, Gajurel declined to elaborate but confirmed that he officially resigned on December 6.
