KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Police Office has urged residents to exercise caution and refrain from venturing into crowded places with valuables, emphasizing the heightened risk of theft during the festive season.
The police have issued an 11-point public appeal, particularly highlighting safety measures for festivals like Tihar, Nepal Sambat, and Chhath.
To enhance peace and security during these celebrations, the police are discouraging activities such as langurburza, gambling, and playing cards.
Senior Superintendent of Police Dinesh Raj Mainali, the Spokesperson for the Office, stated that a dedicated police team has been deployed for the surveillance of potentially disruptive activities like firecracker incidents, violence, theft, smuggling, and games involving financial losses.
Given the festive period, increased monitoring of undesirable activities in the transportation sector, especially traffic, has been implemented, the Office said.
The police have also urged people to refrain from dealing with explosive materials, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and avoiding consumption of food from strangers while traveling.
The Office has also advised against carrying cash, valuables, jewelry, and expensive mobile phones in crowded places.
If leaving homes or shops, the police have recommended ensuring that windows and doors are securely closed, and where possible, installing locks connected to sirens for added security.
Additional safety measures include informing neighbors and local police if leaving the premises for an extended period, conducting digital transactions to minimize the use of cash, and safeguarding mobile banking OTP codes.
When dealing with checks, the police advise issuing checks only for the intended amount and caution against sharing personal and travel details on social media platforms.
