NEPALGUNJ: A curfew that had been enforced in Nepalgunj for over a week has been lifted from today.

According to Assistant Chief District Officer Topendra Bahadur KC, the district administration decided to remove the curfew bearing in mind the situation improved of late in the town. The situation has presently turned to normalcy, he added.

The District Administration Office, Banke issued a curfew order in Nepalgunj last Tuesday with the development of social unrest in the town. It was issued beginning at 1:00 pm on October 3 following religious unrest that was reportedly due to social media posts targeting the Muslim community.

The curfew in the daytime was slackened on October 5 after the situation relatively improved. The nighttime curfew had remained in effect.

Meantime, the police administration in Banke has come up with a special security plan for the Dashain and Tihar festivals. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Narayan Dangi, said passengers’ help desks have been established at the bus parks in Kohalpur and Nepalgunj.

Similarly, this type of facility has been set up along the Jamunah checkpoint for the convenience of Nepali returning home from India for festivals.

Police surveillance has been intensified along the bus park areas and up to the nearby railway stations in India with the mobilization of police in plain clothes to prevent any fraudulent attempts targeting passengers.

Besides this, the police have increased surveillance in Narainapur which borders India.
