CHITWAN: Approximately 30 percent of active Nepali Congress (NC) members have opted not to renew their memberships in Chitwan, as reported by Rajeshwar Khanal, the President of NC’s Chitwan District.

Chitwan is known for having a significant number of active NC members.

Formerly, there were 28,500 active members in the district.

The party recently conducted its district conference, which marked the first gathering in about 18 months since the new working committee of the Congress was established in Chitwan.

NC leaders in Chitwan expressed concerns about the party’s diminishing strength, attributing it partly to its alliance with the Maoist Center.

Even those who initially supported the alliance with the Maoist Center had a change of heart regarding its effectiveness at the district assembly level, suggesting that the party should contest future elections independently.

In the previous local elections, Nepali Congress supported Renu Dahal, the daughter of Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, for the position of Mayor in Bharatpur.
