KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) today unanimously approved the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (Third Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Corruption Control (First Amendment) Bill 2023.
Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr. Beduram Bhusal had, on behalf of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, presented the proposal seeking the endorsement of the two bills and the upper house of the Federal Parliament approved the proposal unanimously. Both the bills along with the message will now be sent to the House of Representatives.
Before this, a meeting of the National Assembly had unanimously approved a proposal seeking discussions on the two bills along with the report of the Legislation Management Committee.
Replying to the questions raised by the lawmakers during the discussions on the proposal, Minister Bhusal said the House of Representatives, the lower house of parliament will hold intensive discussions on the proposal approved and sent by the National Assembly, further making it richer.
Prior to this, lawmakers Jitendra Narayan Dev, Dr. Bimala Rai, Suresh Alemagar, and Ram Chandra Rai took part in the discussions on the proposal.
In the meeting, Minister Dr. Bhusal presented the Annual Report of the National Information Commission, 2022/23, and the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA)’s 32nd Annual Report, 2022/23. The two annual reports were presented on behalf of the Prime Minister.
Earlier, taking part in the general discussions in the upper house, lawmakers called the attention of the government on a host of issues from the peace process to the elimination of corruption.
The lawmakers also voiced topics related to community forests, fertilizer shortage, economic crisis, the ruling alliance’s common minimum program, gender discrimination, and the synchrony between the voters and the electoral constituencies.
They also drew the government’s attention to providing medical treatment to the police personnel injured in skirmishes during riot control, the looting said to be taking place at the border region, the peace agreement, the country’s loan and grants, and good governance issues.
Those lawmakers who took part in the discussions are Mahesh Kumar Mahara, Dil Kumari Thapa, Jitendra Narayan Dev, Udaya Bahadur Bohara, Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar, Dr. Bimala Rai Paudyal, Dr Khim Lal Devkota, Ram Chandra Rai, Durga Gurung, and Taraman Swanr.
The National Assembly will next meet at 1.1pm on April 13.
