Prime Minister should communicate with Mayor of Kathmandu immediately: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary and Member of the House of Representatives from Kathmandu-4, Gagan Thapa has demanded that the Prime Minister should immediately communicate with the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City regarding the non-removal of garbage in places like Singha Durbar.

Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday, Thapa said that there is a lack of coordination between the federal, provincial, and local governments.

“There is a clash between the Bagh Durbar (Kathmandu Metropolitan City office) and the Singha Durbar. We will debate later about the style and language used by the people’s representatives to fulfill their demands,’ he said, adding, “However, the issues concerned with the response shown by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor have to be addressed and the talks should be initiated instantly.”

The NC General Secretary reiterated that the genuine demands of the people’s representatives should be addressed instantly as per the spirit of the provisions of three tiers of government.

Earlier, on Saturday, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Sah had said that the metropolis would not manage the garbage of Singha Durbar and had even said that those (leaders in) in Singha Durbar deserved to be dumped at the Sisdol landfill site.

Although many people commented against the words of Mayor Sah, they criticized the political leaders for not cooperating with the locally elected representatives.
