International referee Dhakal leaves for Uzbekistan to participate in 2024 POG international referee training

KATHMANDU: International referee Dipendra Dhakal has left for Tashkent, Uzbekistan to take part in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games (POG) International Referee selection and training camp one.

The camp is scheduled to take place from February 12 to 14.

Dhakal, who is the Nepali Army referee since 2071 BS, has been recently promoted to the second class international referee in the Kyorugi category, by the referee committee of the World Taekwondo (WT).

He received the certificates some days ago. It took him four years to get the position.

Having started his career in the sport from local Laliguras Taekwondo Dojang at Kushadevi in Kavrepalanchok, he has become the first Nepali to be the international referee under the WT.

He has participated in eight world ranking competitions and two refresher courses. He obtained an international referee course from China in 2074 BS.

He was in the panel of judges in the Seventh World Military Sports Tournament in Wuhan of China in 2076 BS.

He was announced the best referee in the ‘Royal Spanish International Open Taekwondo Competition, 2022’.

Over 1,000 athletes from more than 65 countries took part in the competition.
