Honesty is key to good governance: Sudurpaschim CM Shah

DHANGADHI: Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, Kamal Bahadur Shah, has pointed out that all should have ethics and honesty to maintain good governance and eliminate corruption.

At a program organized on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day at Dhangadhi today, Chief Minister Shah emphasized the adoption of various ways to promote good governance.

Stating that different types of problems surface due to multiple interpretations of laws- some as per one’s interest and favor-, he mentioned, “One should not dally to control corruption.”

The Chief Minister urged the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to carry out activities confidently to maintain good governance. He however argued corruption could not be ended by bringing laws under the remit of CIAA.

Acting Chief Secretary of the Sudurpaschim Province government, Ganga Bahadur Kharel, said once everyone improves their behavior, there is no need to point at others when it comes to discouraging bad governance.

Similarly, the Chief of the Kanchanpur Office of CIAA, Asman Tamang, clarified on legal and institutional provisions, international commitment, and ongoing efforts to control sleaze.

He shared that the registration of complaints related to financial irregularities and corruption has increased at CIAA, Kanchanpur, and the office recorded 1,253 such cases last year. A total of 582 complaints related to financial sleaze have been registered so far this year.

Likewise, the Chief District Officer of Kailali, Yubraj Katel, and Chief District Officer of Kanchanpur, Gopal Kumar Adhikari, among others also expressed their view on the occasion.
